If you've just joined the club, you probably want to know about things like club uniform, club nights and other general information.
Just click on one of these topics to jump straight to it, or browse down the page to get all the information you might need.
Club Uniform Policy:
When representing Haileybury Waterlions in races at any swim meet, swimmers must wear either club bathers or special racing suits in royal blue (the preferred colour), black or navy blue. During warm-up at competitions, swimmers may wear any bathers. Club caps are to be worn for all races at all meets.
Club t-shirts or tops should be worn to & from a meet and at the pool.
A uniform top of some description should always be worn during medal or award presentations. Towels should not be worn to presentations.
The only uniform requirement at training is for swimmers to wear club caps at the evening training sessions.
Swimmers should be proud of the club and display this through the wearing of the club uniform at meets.
All these items are available from the club (see the Merchandise page).
Club Nights:
Club Nights are open to all Haileybury Waterlions squad swimmers and Fastlane Aquatics swimming lesson students and are free of charge.
Participants will receive attendance awards at the club's annual Presentation Night at the end of the season and trophies presented to the first, second and third top-scoring males and females over the whole series.
These competition nights are a great opportunity for young swimmers to practice their racing techniques, dives, turns and relay team participation in a competitive but non-threatening environment.
Electronic timing will be used and results posted on the noticeboard and the website, allowing swimmers to keep track of their times and progress throughout the season.
The dates for the club nights can be found in the Club Calendar. They are held on Friday nights, starting at 6:30pm, and generally go for about 2 hours.
Please note that swimmers are allowed to swim in upto 2 Club Nights without having to become a member of Swimming Victoria. After that, swimmers must register as either Learn-To-Swim or full members, otherwise they will not be allowed to swim. Ask your coach or a committee member for details.
Also note that swimmers under the age of 12 must have a parent in attendance at the pool for the entire duration of the Club Night session.
The nights are run by the enthusiastic participation of the committee members and other parents who attend. Parents are urged to help with timekeeping (don't worry, it's not as hard as you think and it's a great way to learn how to timekeep without any pressure).
Grievance procedures:
The club has procedures in place to handle grievances by club members against other club members (including the committee).
Starting the process
If you have a grievance that you think should be investigated by the club and action taken, then you should contact the Grievance Officer. The preference is for contact by email as that is sent directly to the Officer's email address rather than going through the committee. This enables the Grievance Officer to be totally independant.
The email address for the Grievance Officer is| grievance | @ | waterlions.com.au |
If you prefer not to use email, you can contact the Grievance Officer either by mail or by phone (ask the club secretary or president for the phone number).
If you send it by mail, address it to:
Private and Confidential
Club Grievance Officer
Haileybury Waterlions Swimming Club
PO Box 143
DINGLEY VIC 3172
Refer to the Members Information Booklet or the Contacts & Addresses page for the name of the current officer(s).
What happens next
The Grievance Officer will discuss the issue with you and will then investigate it to find out all the circumstances, who's involved and how serious it is.
If the Grievance Officer decides that the grievance is not legitimate, you will be advised in writing.
If the grievance is legitimate, the Grievance Officer will try to resolve the problem. If it is very serious or can't be resolved, then he or she will refer it to the club committee.
Appeals
If either party is not satisfied with the outcome, they can appeal to the club committee. If either party is still not satisfied after that, or the committee thinks it necessary, the grievance can be referred to Swimming Victoria to be resolved.
The Team Pledge:
"As a member of the Waterlions Swim Team, I pledge total commitment to the goals and tasks we have begun. Knowing this, I am prepared to give all I have to give both physically and mentally to myself and my team.
I acknowledge that to reach the team's full potential, I must support and encourage my team mates to my optimum ability. I realise it's both my duty and responsibility to share equally in our dreams, work and support all those who share both our name and challenge.
I realise that success comes through long-range commitment, sacrifice and dedication. These we must ensure. I am also ready to share not only in the joys of Victory and Success, but also in the disappointment of losing and failure, for I know that I and my team mates can learn valuable lessons from our losses, so as to ensure ultimate victory in the end. We will be humble in our success and gracious in our defeat.
This team is built on loyalty, pride, commitment and a dream. It's an honour to be part of the finest swim team in Australia."
Words to the Team Yell:
Current chant:

Old (alternative) chant:
